Textual Criticism

The history of the transmission of the text of the New Testament is a fascinating subject. But it is more than a simple subject or an interesting matter. Understanding how we got our Bible and how reliable is its text becomes a vital topic when we believe it is the Word of God.

The Bible is inspired and God has preserved its text down through the centuries. Faith believes it and evidence proves it.

These books are all about this!!!

The Last Twelve verses of Mark, by Ivan Panin was originally published in 1910. It is the most unusual textual criticism book ever written. Panin proves the inspiration of this portion of Scripture through mathematics.

John William Burgon’s classics.

The crazy thing about today’s textual criticism is that a scholar like Burgon could be proved right in so many of his statements and yet be ignored, meanwhile though very or little of W & H’s theory is still standing – if anything at all – they are praised and admired.

Very disappointing.

The New Testament published by Robinson and Pierpont is a wonderful, reliable edition of its original Greek text. It is very easy to have access to it on the internet, through apps, etc. I encourage the Bible student to use it, study it, promote it with confidence. This book presents the expositions by these two great scholars concerning the superiority of the Byzantine (Majority) Text form found in the 2005 edition of their Greek text published by Chilton Publishing. The Greek text of the Gospel of John has been added as a sample of the accuracy of their work. Also because of their contribution, we can boldly say that the case for the reliability of the biblical text has been clearly stated: it has been handed down through the centuries by manuscripts and edited by the valuable textual critics of our time. May God bless His Word, inspired and preserved, so that “the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:17).

THE MAJORITY TEXT OF THE GREEK NEW TESTAMENT by Giuseppe Guarino.

This book proves the case for the superiority of the so called Majority Text of the original Greek New Testament, which some call also Traditional or Byzantine. It is the author’s conviction that the Majority of the manuscripts of the original apostolic texts must be viewed as the result of the faithful copying tradition started with the autographs down to the middle-ages.
